This beautiful day is supposed to be my birthday, but no one remembers, which makes me sad. ‎

On what should have been a regular day, a desperate call for help came in. A dog, bleeding and struggling to walk, was found in a back parking lot of a local manufacturing company. His head and legs were swollen, his body covered in bite wounds and old scars. It was evident he had suffered for a long time. But little did he know, this day would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life. This was Captain’s birthday, a day that would transform his fate.

The Rescue

The initial call led to Captain being brought to the local shelter. However, his condition was so severe that it was immediately clear he needed intensive care. Captain was rushed to the ANNA Wellness Center West, where members of #TEAMANNA – Kelly, Lex, Alison, and Dr. Zeigler – were ready to triage him.

Upon arrival, the team was met with a heartbreaking sight. Captain was covered in infected wounds, emitting a foul smell from the severe infections ravaging his body. Despite the immense pain and suffering, Captain displayed an incredible spirit, remaining sweet and tolerant as if understanding that these humans were there to help.

Intensive Care and Treatment

Dr. Zeigler and her dedicated team worked tirelessly on Captain. They spent hours cleaning his wounds, draining and debriding the dead skin and infection. Some of the larger wounds were sutured to encourage healing. Captain’s ears, which had been so torn and damaged from his past life, were assessed for potential surgical removal.

Through it all, Captain remained resilient. His willingness to endure the treatments and his gentle nature touched everyone who met him. It was confirmed that he had been used for dog fighting and discarded due to the severity of his injuries. But Captain’s story of pain and neglect was about to change.

A Birthday Like No Other

As Captain lay recovering, the team realized it was his birthday. They decided to celebrate this courageous dog’s new beginning with a special celebration. The ANNA family rallied together, showering Captain with love, healing wishes, and prayers.

The staff at the wellness center decorated Captain’s recovery area with balloons and streamers. They brought in a dog-friendly cake, and Captain, despite his pain, seemed to sense the joy and love surrounding him. His eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope as he received gentle pets and words of encouragement from everyone around.

News of Captain’s rescue and his birthday celebration spread quickly. The community was moved by his story and eager to support his recovery. Donations poured in, ensuring Captain had everything he needed for his healing journey. Local businesses contributed toys, treats, and medical supplies, showing their support for this brave dog.
