Kylo Ren: From Shelter Dog to Beloved Family Member

Kylo Ren, a charming dog with a playful and loving personality, began life with more hardships than any dog deserves. At just 10 months old, he found himself at the West Memphis Animal Shelter, waiting for someone to see his true worth. Despite his sweet nature and goofy quirks, Kylo spent a long time overlooked—until one day, fate brought him the perfect family.

Today, we celebrate Kylo’s sixth birthday and reflect on his incredible journey from a shelter pup to a cherished member of a loving home.

A New Beginning

Kylo’s story took a turn for the better when ALIVE Rescue Memphis pulled him from the shelter and placed him in a foster home. Despite being a lovable and loyal dog, Kylo had trouble catching the attention of potential adopters. Months passed with no inquiries—until Meghan Sweers and her husband stumbled upon Kylo’s picture on Facebook.

“We saw his picture and reached out,” Meghan recalled. “I think he was always meant to wind up with us; it just took some time for us to find him!”

Finding His Forever Home

Meghan and her husband already shared their home with Nellie, their adorable corgi. They wanted to ensure Kylo would get along with Nellie before making a commitment, so they arranged a trial night. A rescue volunteer drove Kylo four hours to Meghan’s home.

As soon as Kylo arrived, it was clear he had found his family. “He crawled into my lap, tucked his head under my chin, and started snoring like a chainsaw,” Meghan said. “That’s when we knew he was staying with us.”

Adjusting to Life at Home

Kylo quickly bonded with his new family and adapted to his home with a few unique quirks. One of the most memorable? He disliked hardwood floors, so Meghan and her husband covered the entire house with rugs to help him navigate comfortably.

“He hops from rug to rug like it’s a game,” Meghan laughed.

A Year Full of Hugs and Snuggles

Kylo’s love for his mom is boundless. Every day when Meghan returns from work, Kylo eagerly waits by the door, ready to shower her with hugs and affection. “As soon as I sit down to take off my shoes, he climbs into my lap,” Meghan shared. “If I don’t sit down, he follows me with the saddest look until I hold him.”

Kylo’s cuddly nature has melted the hearts of even the most skeptical family members, especially those who were initially wary of bully breeds.

Changing Perceptions

Kylo’s charm has helped dispel misconceptions about bully breeds. His sweet and loving demeanor wins over everyone he meets. “He’s turned so many people who were prejudiced against bully breeds into believers,” Meghan said. “He just climbs into their lap, falls asleep, and they’re smitten.”

Celebrating Six Years of Love

Today, on Kylo’s sixth birthday, his family reflects on the joy he’s brought into their lives. From his hugs and snuggles to his quirky habits, Kylo has filled their home with unconditional love.
