When the compassionate team at Instituto Amor em Patas (IAPA) discovered Nata, she was in a fragile state, barely able to stand and filled with fear. Her previous owner had left her, terrified of the impending arrival of her puppies. It took time for the shelter volunteers to calm her down, as Nata instinctively protected her unborn pups with all her might.

At first, Nata was incredibly guarded, using all her energy to keep the volunteers at bay. However, after a while, she began to relax her defenses and opened up, allowing the warmth of human kindness to reach her heart.

“Look at her belly—it might be 13 or 14 babies inside,” one volunteer remarked. Recognizing Nata’s weakened state, they scheduled her for tests to ensure she received the necessary care for her and her puppies.

With the support of the shelter, Nata was allowed to return to the safety of their facility for the delivery. When the moment arrived, she succeeded brilliantly, giving birth to a bright young boy. Nata and her puppies were taken for a thorough check-up, including ultrasounds and blood tests, where they learned that she was red-faced but happy. Her 14 puppies were healthy, plump, and full of life, much to the relief of the shelter staff.
